Here’s our latest commentfic challenge, to tide us over until Whump-a-Palooza postings start in early June! (What are you waiting for - only two dates left to claim!) 

Now, in real life, head injuries are nothing to trifle with, but in TV Land, they’re resolved by the end of the hour! This makes them one of my favorite tropes.

This fest is actually more expansive than you think – we’re including any kind of injury or illness that occurs above the neck.  Amnesia. Concussion. Fever dreams. Loss of sight. Hell, even dental surgery – it’s all good.

ALSO, for this and all past fests, artistic interpretations of prompts are very welcome, so if you're one of those whose muse tends to favor the visual arts, go right ahead!

Neal and Moz’s plane crashes at the end of the runway at the end of the episode and Neal is injured. He remembers nothing of his life, or his crimes – or does he? Is it all a scam to stay out of Kramer’s clutches? Slash preferred, but gen works too – I’m not that picky.

Peter fever, Neal is not what he seems, slash or gen

Peter is plagued with a high fever and hallucinates… something… about Neal. Is he an angel? A vampire? Up to you. Is it real or the fever? Also up to you.

More Neal!amnesia! Neal/Keller, optional D/s

Keller’s smackdown in Checkmate leaves Neal with amnesia, and he now thinks he’s in the past, when he and Keller were partners. Keller uses this.

I think an added point of interest would be a sexual D/s relationship between these two, but I’m not saying it’s mandatory, nor am I saying the depiction of said relationship needs to be explicit. If not (or in addition), it would be interesting to explore Keller’s feelings for Neal – like, he really loved Neal at one point and to have him as an enemy hurts.

Peter gets a migraine while undercover with Neal. Neal has to save the operation and look after Peter, who is trying to carry on as best as he can. Or something like that, not too fussy. Gen preferred, though background Peter/El is fine.

Feverish Neal

I want more feverish Neal where he is literally stuck somewhere (physically during a takedown, hostage, etc) and Peter is either part of the sting and cannot react to Neal's state or he is stuck in the van listening to Neal's ever worsening state.

Neal can see sickness and death

WARNING: PROBABLY TRIGGERY CAUSE IT WOULD SCAR THE "S" OUT OF ME.

While deplaning, Neal is accidently whacked on the head and develops a killer headache. When Neal wakes up the next morning he can "see" Mozzie's developing respertory infection though he has no idea what it is. Neal tries to act like nothings wrong but he becomes more confused and terrified as the day goes on as he can see the illness in all things and he can even see death.

I would love Peter to the rescue in some way.

I love this prompt but does it have to be related to JD? I kind of would like to have it not have to deal with that entire arc....and maybe would considering writing it then.

Neal is undercover on an FBI case and is caught in an explosion. His physical injuries are minor, but he's left effectively deaf from the blast for at least a few days.

I'd love to see Moz and Neal able to communicate via subtle signals developed over years of friendship and collaboration. Or maybe Neal knows some ASL, and Peter and/or Elizabeth do too?

Let's pretend El escaped a lot earlier than she did in the episode, but she's been drugged by Keller. She's confused, lost, hiding somewhere and for some reason, she gets her hands on a phone. Who does she get through to first? How do they find her? How do they get her to safety?

Toothache - Neal or Peter

Neal or Peter has a toothache and is stubbornly refusing to go to the dentist--maybe they're in the middle of a big case and he's planning to go just as soon as it's wrapped up or maybe he's afraid of the dentist or maybe whatever medical coverage Neal has doesn't extend to dental (or Peter's maxed out his for the year and is trying to wait for the next plan year LOL). In any case, the infection gets worse, he gets a fever and is in pain, and the issue has to be dealt with immediately. It could be anything from an emergency trip to the dentist and a course of antibiotics to a brush with sepsis or brain infection.

ETA: Gen or any permutation of the OT3 preferred.

Neal depressed, post-JD AU (trigger for mental illness)

Neal decides to stay or gets caught before he can get away and ends up having to work for Kramer in DC. Apart from all of his friends and feeling doomed to stay there forever, Neal gets seriously depressed to the point where he's not useful to Kramer anymore or where his behavior is worrisome enough that somebody other than Kramer calls Peter.

Gen or any permutation of the OT3 preferred.

Prompt: Blind/Scared Neal lost in DC, gen or slash

Neal is caught in an explosion while working for Kramer. He is blinded, injured, and scared, not knowing DC. He's trackerless. Peter becomes his lifeline. Can Peter bring him in safe before Kramer loses patience and sends in Marshalls? If he can, can Peter give him up or is Peter determined to not leave DC without his quarry? Would prefer slash or OT3 but gen works too. Mozzie latching himself as 'consultant' to help Peter would be GREAT. I like the mutual jealousy of each others relationship with Neal but how for Neal's sake they can work together without Neal's well buffer.

Head injury - no help for a while

When Peter and Neal go undercover, it turns SNAFU. Peter is angry that a junior probie got killed. He feels guilty and in a moment of human imperfection, takes out his anger on Neal. They separate. Peter expects Neal to follow like always. Neal takes Peters anger to heart and decides maybe their splitting is for the best. Peter waits up ahead and becomes concerned when Neal isn't following. He goes back and finds him unconscious, bleeding from a head injury. He drags Neal but ends up dislocating his shoulder. They hide out in a cave waiting for help. Peter has to find ways to keep Neal conscious and talking. Any way is open. Schmoop, if you are of an adult mind, a R to X rated game of 'Can you top that?" or maybe just cuddling and Peter telling Neal a story of the first time Neal saved him (long before the deal) but making errors to prompt Neal to interrupt and correct him. Really am open for anything. Just a sucker for angsty concussion stories of no help and having to keep the concussed person awake.

Oooh, doghouse fic! I love, love, love them - particularly when the person in the doghouse is not nearly so 'in the wrong' as the angry person would like it to be, thus resulting in a clear need to communicate, apologize, and make up for rash actions. I've had so many thoughts on this, but with the feverish ideas and not with head injury as the mitigating factor.

I've seen all the feverish prompts posted and wanted to try to think of something different and then this sorta popped into my head.

Neal or Peter suffering from insomnia, being so tired that although you want to sleep you but your brain won't actually shut off enough for you to sleep.


So figured I'd try leaving a prompt for the first time, apologies if this doesn't fit with the fest.

Elizabeth thinks Peter and Neal are very tired and works too much. So when they are both of them at Burke's home, she puts some sleeping pills in their coffee to make them sleep because, really, they need a break.

Or it could be Mozzie who puts the sleeping pills in their drinks at Neal's apartment.

(I had this hilarious dream about Neal for some reason staying with Burkes for the night and accidentally sleepwalks into their room and their bed:-D Guess it's not very h/c-y (though if you go with that, I'd be thrilled), but I'd like me some sleepwalking Neal. Maybe he starts sleepwalking when totally exhausted, or from stress, or he sleepwalks to the roof while Peter have to get him down - you got the picture.

ok, can't resist my favorite amnesia plot

A different twist on amnesia, based on a Knight Rider ep. While Neal is undercover (sans tracker) he gets hurt. For some reason (maybe they all thought someone else went) none of the FBI team go to the hospital with him. When they finally realize what happened and go to collect him, they find out he was discharged, but the kicker is he told them his name was **** (make up whatever). This is an alias that Neal created when he was lying low sometime. This alias was never a criminal, and had never heard of Agent Burke. Now our FBI team is running around trying to find Neal before the bad guys do, while Neal is confusedly going around trying to find a life that never really existed. No slash or OT3, gen only, though Peter/El not graphic is fine.

Total crack!fic crossover hilarity just popped into my brain with what those two characters would do to each other.
