Most Wanted Post-Ep Mini-Challenge

If you're like me, you were dancing on your couch when poor Neal got shot. And if you're like me, you're also either working on a fic tagged to that, or have already published one, or want to see one!

Feel like saving your work for a big ol' orgy o' Hurt/Comfort?

This is a new type of challenge - a bit of a mixed bag with a very limited time frame. Here are the steps:

1. WRITE!
Let's all go off and write tags to Most Wanted! Slashy or Gen - we don't care, we love them all!

2. PROMPT!!
Not a writer? Post a prompt below and maybe you will inspire a Most Wanted fic. Writer looking for ideas? See below for prompts!

3. PUBLISH!!!
What do you think, Collars - can you get your work together in a week? Already done? Terrific (and I'm so jealous)! I'll throw up a Master Post in exactly ONE WEEK: next Friday, July 27, and we'll all share.

ETA: I'll post a Master List on the 27th here on the comm, along with any fills posted to the prompts below. Anyone who has either written a fill or a fic on their own can also respond to that post with a link.

The Bullet Didn't Hit Neal's Leg

Thought I'd throw in a prompt in case it gets any juices flowing...

Collins didn't hit Neal in the leg, but in his belly or chest. Thinking he's killed him, he dumps him in a ditch. Who finds him? How long's it take?

The wound reopens

Staying off the leg means staying off the leg but except for a brief time, Neal did not stay off the leg so the wound reopens and gets infected.

Collins Faces the Consequences

Agent Collins is brought up on charges (whether criminal or just administrative is up to you) for shooting Neal. Neal must testify at the hearing. What does he do?

Extreme Whump, Peter Goes Ballistic

The bullet wound gets majory infected - like MRSA or something. Neal nearly dies; maybe they might have to amputate. Peter goes after Collins with extreme prejudice.

Collins thinks Neal is dead

An offshoot (pun intended) of Rabidchild67's prompt.

Collins intended to shoot Neal in the leg but Neal tried to swipe the gun away and got hit in the chest. He has no problem returning Neal dead. Peter and Mozzie see Dobbs and Collins load a long tightly wrapped package into the jeep and they follow him to the airport. Peter gets on the plane and discovers that Neal is just barely alive.

Dobbs, wanting to preserve the sanctity of the island, tries to stop Collins from shooting Neal and gets shot himself. Neal, using the distraction, runs and though is shot by Collins, he escapes. Now Collins frames Neal for Dobb's murder and the whole island is after the now possibly "armed" and dangerous fugitive.

When Collins ran into Peter at Neal's house, I kind of expected him to shoot Peter too. How about Collins shoots him too (sort of like he shoots Neal), and Moz has to take care of both Neal and Peter? :p

Neal was shot and fainted from the pain and blood lose. When he wakes up in the cell he's holding a gun and Collins is lying dead next to him, shot dead. At the door of the cell are Dobbs, Peter and Mozzie.

This could be more of a missing scene than an AU to the episode. At some point in all of the running around and scheming, etc. the blood loss, pain or whatever causes Neal to pass out. It could be when he was running away with Peter, and Peter has to full-on carry him then. Or maybe it's when they're in the planning stage of their plan, and Peter or Mozzie just catch him and let him rest somewhere until he comes to. Or maybe it's almost-disastrously in the middle of the party at Dobbs' house. Anyway, not so much a worsening of the wound to where things couldn't go on as in canon, but an opportunity for pale, woozy Neal, concerned Peter, and a bit of gentle care-taking. :)

The bullet wound becomes infected, Neal goes out of his head with fever and hallucinates that he's back in jail, that Collins got to him before they could get to Dobbs.

Much weeping and pain and fear and longing for Peter to come rescue him would be greatly appreciated.

Collins threatens Neal

Neal's still recovering from the gun shot wound and though he was obviously in fear and pain when it happened, he was able to keep it together for as long as he had to. Now at home, he's not doing well when Collins makes a surprise visit. Dobbs, in order to get a lighter sentence, has accused Collins of shooting Neal without provocation. Collins tells Neal that if he doesn't stand by Collins' story, that Neal was in the act of escaping and could have been armed (which could jeopardize Neal's deal), Collins will kill Neal and frame Peter for it.

Collins rewards himself by taking Neal (non-con warning!)

Collins gets off on the hunt, no matter who's the target.

Add to that the fact that Neal's the prettiest, not to mention most frustrating, target he's ever had, Collins decides to...sample the goods before taking Neal back. He can kill two birds with one stone: Have some "well deserved" fun as reward for catching Neal, and teach Neal a lesson for trying to escape.

Gotta love the hurt, though wouldn't mind some comfort after, be it from Peter and/or Mozzie (if it's just Mozzie, gen only, please!). If Collins uses the gunshot wound as added leverage, even better. If Collins thinks it's fun to use the gun as added prop during his quality time with Neal, I'll love you forever. *shifty*

Collins waved off the offer to get Neal medical attention, and since Neal's wearing all white, it all looks really bloody.

Peter and Moz freak out and panic when they see how much blood he's got over his leg, then let the comforting and raging commence!

This is my first White Collar fic. I just found this comm and couldn't resist jumping in. This is betaed only by my anal personality - all errors are my own. Hope you like!

Tentative title: Torn Stitches (Part 1)

The island doctor hadn't given Neal any painkillers, not that he would have taken them anyway. He'd needed to be clear-headed to escape from Collins' custody.

Peter had only offered drugs once, after he'd checked out Neal's wound and re-bandaged it at the house before his bartender lessons. As it turns out, narcotics were pretty easy to come by when you weren't on US soil, but Neal had shaken his head and Peter had understood immediately. There was too much to do and too much of that depended on Neal being mobile.

Now, however, they had switched planes in the Canary Islands to a government charter with some rows of two by two seats. Collins was keeping a close eye on McLeish in the back, which meant the eyes he could feel burning into the side of his head were Peter's. Neal was even less surprised when Peter dropped into the aisle seat beside him and reached for the wound.

"Whoa, hey." Neal grimaced as he jerked his leg away from the FBI agent and hovered a hand protectively over his thigh.

"I need to check your leg," Peter said. "There's blood on your pants."

Neal looked down and frowned at the growing spot of red. "Damn," he swore softly.

"How are you feeling?" Peter asked, digging through the first aid kit that Neal hadn't realized he had with him. It was one of the larger versions, which meant it belonged to the airplane. There was also a bottle of water balanced on the armrest between them.

"I've been better."

"You ready to take some painkillers now?"

"Peter-"

"Neal, you've been walking around, hell climbing up trees, on that leg. It's a pretty safe bet, since it's bleeding, that you've torn some stitches. And you probably have a bit of an infection. You don't want me poking around it without some drugs in your system."

"I don't want you poking around it at all."

"Tough shit," Burke replied as he pulled a small knife out of his pocket.

Neal eyed the knife warily. "What's that for?"

"Calm down." Peter all but rolled his eyes. "It's just in case you can't or don't want to take your pants off."

"What? I'm not taking my pants off!"

I'm a newbie to this comm, but have to tell you I have enjoyed it so much (I'm a huge h/c angst whore!)and when I watched WC Tuesday, I giggled like a maniac when Neal was shot. All I could think of was this bunch of folks who have been living for THAT moment! Anyway, awesome job, everyone. your writing is unbelievably awesome, and I have become a junkie for your fics. Write on!

Blood clot!!!

I have a prompt I have a prompt -- hope I am not too late to the party. How about after the long flight and sitting forever, Neal develops a blood clot. Have it go somewhere dangerous. He might even get it while he's in processing with the Marshalls or something. PLEASE???

*ducks head in* Hope I'm not too late to prompt (and that no one else has requested this. I think I read through all the prompts, but I might have missed it...) What if the bullet hit and seriously dammaged the bone or muscle? And then he did all that running around on it against the Doctors advice, so... Turns out he's going to need that cane for longer than a few weeks. Maybe even permanently.

Cue long and painful PT.

Thanks for this wonderful story. I had to read something warm and fuzzy after the dreadful beginning to season 5. I can't believe I am actually wishing that they had ended the show with Neal and Mozzie in Cape Verde--as Neal said, that was as good an ending as they could have hoped for. And a much better place than they are now. :-(
